An ad I snapped off the web last year. It totally blew me away. It does not conform to any kind of semiotic system - and one purpose of an advertisement is to communicate no matter the complexity of the system of communication offered (see: recent Skittles commercials). But internet ads need a new category and require some kind of government-funded study. I’d classify this internet ad along with those strange talentless dancing silhouettes shilling sub-prime mortgages, a category I’d like to call “Random Ignorance Anti-Design.” So complex it unintentionally does not obey the rules of visual communication.
