OMG OMG OMG
Sorry for the enthusiasm, but the last time I got excited for a new Animal Collective record was … well, since the last one. I think this one may turn out diff judging from the pitchfork review. Hmm … maybe I won’t obsessively listen to this one for three weeks, deem it fantastic and near-perfect, and then forget to listen to it ever again.
Also: is Avey Tare vs. Panda Bear slowly transforming into a Lennon vs. McCartney split? It seems as if they have distinctly different songs and different directions on each record they produce together. Since the last LP and since the success of solo Panda Bear - who, incidentally, lives most of the year in Portugal (Lisbon: the new Berlin?!?!) - I had thought that AC was on its way to breakupborough. If I took my inane-history-repeats-itself thesis to its logical limit, one might say Merriweather Post Pavilion could turn out to be their swan-song Abbey Road.
Enough speculations! I haven’t even listened to it yet! And, speaking of … it’s being reviewed right now on Sound Opinions…
